Story behind your DA username: It's my nickname and also my alias under which I play chill out music as a label Dj for two labels (its Mistique actually)

Why do you create art?: It's kinda way to express what I feel inside of me, it's my hobby (I used to do manual drawings but two years ago I started with programs such as Photoshop and LOVE IT!!!

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: hehe many things such as: music, life in general, wonderful stock images, photography, but seeing other people here on DA creating that kind of art makes wanna contribute even more

How long have you been an artist?: As a music artist Djing several years 5-6 i think and as a graphic artist more then 2 years (I used to do drawings since I can remember but those are more psychedelic and mandalas stuff and I haven't put them over here

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Well basically its my hobby but sometimes i catch some projects here and there such as CD works, Flyers etc. and sometimes i make a living out of it. I hope i can do more but my real job as a social worker doesn't let me do more.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): Mostly photomanipulations conceptual, emotional, dark etc., psychedelic digital works, Fractals and sometimes i do photography im a freak when it comes to macro photos

Why are these your favorites?: I can't tell the first two is actually because there are more textures on them (I like to play with textures A LOT) and the last one I don't know I cant say I like it the most

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): I listen to all types of music but I can say chill out music, new age progressive metal music, Industrial music. I dont know it depends on my mood, Ethno Music etc.

Story behind your DA username: I'm not telling!

Why do you create art?: I started with drawings, comics, photomanips and then i turned to photography. For me it's just another way to express my feelings.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: I cannot name on thing, but I can say "everything".

How long have you been an artist?: I wouldn't call myself an artist. It seems too pretentious. But I have been "expressing" myself for more than 15years.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: I found out that if you do something creative and you put your whole heart in it the results are incredible. So you may never know how things turn out in the end, because one might be so lucky in mixing a hobby with a career.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): Lately, I stuck to photography. In the past I had many attempts at other artistic means. But not very fortunate ones. For example: according to my neighbors, my baritone career was not a bright idea

It's funny you should ask that now: I've recently deleted all my favorite photos from DA, and decided to move them to another account. It seems those concepts and photos were a little to complicated for DA, so I decided to leave only the more "pop-ish" photos on this account. Pop as in "popular" and "loved".

Why are these your favorites: Kayceeus is one of my favorite DA artists, I love her work and the beautiful scenes she comes up with.
Andrew Wyeth is a favorite because of his calming scenes. It makes me want to crawl into his art and become a part his paintings.
I am a huge fan of Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison because of their wonderful Enviormental pieces. I was fortunate enough to see their work first hand, it is amazing to see these up close.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): I am a huge fan of musicians like James Taylor, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, I find their music very soothing.

Story behind your DA username: It´s my definition for life : Sad and pretty and fun

Why do you create art?: Because it goes from uncompromised fun to the best terapeutical treatment you can have

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Everything that somehow is ispirational to be translated as visual information. From feelings and life repertory to fashion and green tea, nothing is too small and everything can be relevant.

How long have you been an artist?: This is hard to tell, perhaps I´ve always donne art, but just became an artist in late teens when I started to have this perception and focus about expression and not so much in tecnique.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Art as career is a delicate subject since to be so, in my conception, somehow I would have to be paid to freely create whenever and whathever I feel to. So, in this terms, yes, I surely hope and it would be great. I mean, F*¨& college lol

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in?: Well I definitely not a "model/singer/actress" person. Beyond Illustration I consider myself absolutely mediocre. But I do think it´s always great to learn new things so perhaps one day you´ll see me playing trumpet while dolphin training.

Why are these your favorites: I fell in love with their aesthetics plus they tell histories to me.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): Basically my notebook of college as I doodle a LOT (Law lol) and then I digitalize it with a tablet using Corel Painter X and Photoshop. And I´m talking about Lots of layers

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): Music can really change the course of one work so It´s really important to make a proper set list. It's really variated but the latest band names I can give are: Tyger Baby, Frou Frou ,Ben Watt,Ladytron and Rusky Rescue

Story behind your DA username: Punkyinstigator ...that was inspired by a Gene Simmons song called Firestarter there's a line that goes "...I'm a punking instigator..." and I remembered the program "Punky Brewster" from way back in the 80s. So I took Punky and Instigator and just threw them together. Everyone calls me an instigator anyway so it seemed fitting.

Why do you create art?: Because it comes natural to me and I enjoy it.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Everything around me inspires me; books, movies; music; life. I'm a people watcher, and all of just intrigues me. Other artists are also great inspiration. A lot of them are here, on DA.

How long have you been an artist?: I've been drawing since I was 5 --when my dad made me sit at the dining room table and would not let me up until I'd finished drawing this lion head image that was on the front of one of his art books. Every time I said I couldn't do it, my dad would say yes you can.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Right now my art is mainly a hobby; but I also make a little cash designing tattoos. One day I would like to be able to make a living off of my artwork.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): My main mediums are pen, colored pencil, markers, oils, water color, and the digital mediums.

Why are these your favorites:
Carnivale is one of my favorites because of the colors--they're bright and cheery, and because of the heart in the middle which was actually and accident.
The Elemental Roses-because they the first series I did. I know I've improved a lot since they were done and could more than likely produce much better pieces.
Stairs to Nowhere is a favorite of mine because it was the first piece I did after I had my nervous breakdown a year ago. I'd spent some time in the psych ward of the hospital and all of the doors to sets of stairs were locked and marked 'Employees Only' to me there was no true escape from that place except an official release from the doc.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): That depends on my mood, sometimes I'll just scan drawing into the computer and do a thing with them except resize them; Other times I'll sketch the outlines with pencils, darken them with pen then go into photoshop or paint shop pro and color them. And still there are other times when I'll mess around with apophysis, or use stock that I've gotten from artists on DA to create stuff.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): The music I listen to while creating varies from 80s to Country to Classical; If I'm not listening to music, I've either got a movie of sort in or I'm watching Law & Order SVU or CI; HOUSE; THE CLOSER; or SAVING GRACE.

Story behind your DA username: Seven years ago I started a fantasy story base website for players of The Sims to read. Since I wanted the name of the site to relate to the game, I named it The FantaSim Tales. As I began to create downloads and become known in the game's community, the name The FantaSim was used and I picked it up as one of my user names.

Why do you create art?: Creating art, like so many people, is an outlet for me. It's a way to escape to another world, one that I am directly responsible for creating. I guess you can say it's one part of my life where I an play god.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Anything. But at dA, it's definitely the stock. Browsing stock helps me find just the right pieces to put together for a deviation. Otherwise I do work in themes until I find I'm exhausted the theme out. I may try that with photomanipulations, but often I'm pulled away to create another idea.

How long have you been an artist?: It feels like since I was a child. However, I didn't take art seriously until my senior year in high school, then I majored in art when I entered college.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Right now it is definitely for fun. Since I no longer have a studio, I've turned to photomanipulation. I'm self taught and it's been quite a journey to learn that digital medium successfully. Not that ever deviation is perfect.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): I'm a painter (oils, acrylics and watercolor) and a printmaker often creating collages from one or the other, even mixing them at times. I also create ceramics, and I enjoy writing stories and poetry.

Why are these your favorites?:
These three are among my favorite because they came so easily while I was putting them together. I had the idea in my head, and the deviations came out exactly the way I intended. Also they are three of my most successful deviations, even to the point of getting noticed by someone visiting my gallery.

Why are these your favorites: I went through my recent favorites and chose these three because 1) they are fantasy based deviations, 2) each used texture in a way to enhance the deviation and still keep the individual parts looking realistic (I absolutely love the texture of the second deviation), and 3) They were the first that jumped out at me when I looked at the first page of my favorites gallery.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): My main paint program is PaintShopPro9 anthough I also used Microsoft's Picture It! because of some of the short cut tools and special effects. Sometimes I'll use one exclusive to the other, and other times I mix them together.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): Usually, since I have to concentrate on what I'm doing, I listen to softer rock like Radiohead, Bjork, Massive Attack; or something I'm very familiar with so that I'm not really listening, such as A Perfect Circle or Nine Inch Nails recent releases (With Teeth, Year Zero, Ghosts). Then there's times, since I'm listening to an IPod, that I'll go random and skip the songs I don't want to listen to.

Why are these your favorites: i love Druillet for the energy, the details that are serving the image and never purposeless, he's the best to me; Frazetta is a genius because he only puts details where they're needed, no additionnal ones, and the rest looks rough but finallly increases the force of his paintings and the ambiances; Delacroix ha strong curves and powerful subjects that reveal the human soul

1. Because it was my very first oil painting and my teacher was Rowena Morrill the famed fantasy artist and I totally enjoyed her class.
2. This was my first piece that got over 100 plus favs

Story behind your DA username: It was an ID I used for a long time already. Destiny is in all of us, it’s who we are and where we are going, something we want to control. The Miz is an abbreviation of mistress, which in its adult context is also about control. They go together very well is some situations. I was studying fetishes and human sexuality when this just seemed perfect.

Why do you create art?: I have always found art relaxing and loved it my entire life. I have memories of individual paintings and drawings as early as my first school year. I took more interest when an art teacher made me study shadows and reflections at the age of 11. For years it was just an occasional thing, but since December 2007, Ive found it therapeutic and put a lot more time into it.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Usually it’s something I see or feel. When I have both of these together, the piece seems to form without effort and I can work on it non-stop. The buzz off a newly finished piece is incredible when I know it’s just right.

How long have you been an artist?: Since school, although the digital art is much newer. Im self taught and only dabbled with photo touch ups and minor graphics editing until December. So Ive only been manipulating for a few months.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: It’s always been a hobby, but I would love to make a career of it. Im hoping for more award winning pieces to make a good portfolio.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): I used to write a lot of poetry at school.. The long, funny stories always involved real people and situations, and friends would ask me to write one for them. Ive done my share of crafts too. My glass paintings have gone all over the world, and I sold enough to have some great Christmases for the family. I did 3D modelling with salt dough and sold loads of those too. My all time favourite was pencil and paper but I adore the manips now that I have tried it.

The Hurting

Why are these your favorites?: Wine Cooler was my first manip. I had a partial image of the model and created the bottle and the wine mostly by painting with Photoshop. The feedback and hits inspired me, gave me the confidence to try more.
Charmed was the first really detailed one. I had a mission to make it funny, but the hours of delicate painting and shading became a real obsession. And I think this marked another turning point in my style and my confidence. In fact, its part of a series. The second one is Alice in Clubland and Im currently working on Lil' Red in dA Hood.
The Hurting was my first emotional piece. I felt the need to put it ‘on paper’ almost immediately and all of the emotions described in the comments are very real, I didn't even have to think about what to write – it flowed. It feels like I was able to deal with them in a way that talking just can’t fix. My daughter loved it and instinctively felt the same, and so did the original model.

Why are these your favorites: Blood-Butterflies is a beautiful piece with traditional pencil and appropriate watercolour. It’s similar to my own style of drawing but I have never attempted much beyond still/real life. So I admire it.
More Please is a very artistic illustration of fetish, which I have studied in depth in my time. It’s portrayed in a much more gentle way than some BDSM pics. Feminine yes, but also very beautiful.
I only came across G’morning yesterday, but instantly felt the closeness and completeness of a couple just from looking at it. It’s much more emotional than it might appear because that smile IS contentment and the image of sharing a cuddle inside the same garment couldn't be any closer. It’s so intimate without showing anything more .

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): I only use Photoshop, but I have used others in the past. Right now, this does everything I need. I did look at some fractal software. Some of those pieces are absolutely hypnotising and Id love to be able to do that too. I did try a very basic one from a tutorial I found, just to see how it works in Photoshop really.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): I usually listen to dance and trance music, particularly vocal and progressive because they are powerful and emotional. but I also like Mike Oldfield, Alison Moyet, Enrique Iglesias and many others in between. Music can match or change my mood. It also triggers memories which can make me happy or sad. I do use this in my work to help me to switch off other thoughts or to keep my in my current mood.

Anything else you'd like to say to the group: When I first stumbled across the group, I knew I had to join. It gave me inspiration when I didn't realise I needed it and almost every piece I have fits in. It’s also a pleasure to see what’s been shared by the other artists, so thanks for sharing and inspiring

Story behind your DA username: "royalstandard" came to be when I needed a name to join an RPG with. I couldn't come up with anything, so I referenced history which is my favorite subject. In history, and other subjects as well, one use of the word "standard" is when meaning a flag that represented a king or some other noble figure. So, since they were generally related to kings, I chose "royal" to be its adjective and came up with "royalstandard". It's been with me ever since - for about three years now.

Why do you create art?: I create art because it makes me happy and I love being creative and I love making new things by piecing a bunch of other things together.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Sometimes songs do but most of the time stock images themselves inspire me. I see a horse standing in a particular position or see a cliff in some image, and I just get this mental image of what I should make. So I go from there and create something.

How long have you been an artist?: I used to draw and such when I was younger so I've really been an "artist" for as long as I can remember. However, I've been doing photomanipulation for about three years now.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: I really only do art for fun. I thought about making it a career at one time but if I had to do it then I wouldn't enjoy it as much.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): photomanipulation, pencil and colored pencils, some photography, literature (I'm in the process of writing my own novel), I play the saxophone and the ukelele.

Why are these your favorites?:
I like The Princess and her Steed because 1) it was an image I did for a friend as a gift 2) it was really my first successful attempt at blending backgrounds 3) a lot of stuff went into it and it ended up coming out really well.
I've always liked White Wolf's Las Vegas even though it's really simple. I loved how well the recolorization and markings went and I adore the sand around his feet. That picture made me proud.
Ever since I drew the chipmunk picture I was proud of it. I drew it when I was probably about 12, and I surprised myself with how realistic and detailed it was. I've always liked that one.

Why are these your favorites:
Welcome to Paradise: I adore this image. It just makes me want to be there. It's so realistic that I feel like I'm standing on the beach looking up at the mountain in the picture. I just can't help loving it.
Lithium: This whole thing just gives me chills. It's so perfect. I love the horse's hair and the clouds and everything. The smoothness is simplistically perfect.
Phoenipeganix: Basically, if ~acornah did it, I'm going to love it. I've worshipped her stuff from my beginnings in the photomanipulation community. I just love the perfection in this image. I can't help staring at it when I see it. I also love all three creatures that she combined into this image (phoenix, unicorn, and pegasus). It's just gorgeous beyond compare.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): Photoshop CS2 That's it. I do any and all digital painting and whatnot in there as well.

Story behind your DA username: Fenrizulf is actually known in Norse mythology as Fenrir or Fenrisulfr. Fenris is a monstrous wolf who devour the moon and sun and god Odin in norse mythology. I'm interested in all mythology as you can see. Lol!! Besides, I'm a fan of Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone, Fenriz is drummer of this band. Fenriz is his stage name. Why do you create art?: because it's great part of my life...I feel to purify myself when I create art. Art is a different dimension, a different world for me.

Why do you create art?: I create art because I'm always trying to innovate new ideas, and ideas can't be be put down properly if the technical skills dont get exercised. So I guess, its mix of passion, of innovating and of continued practice to do better!

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Photography, imaginative novels, depressing days, storming days and when under-pressure to finish college projects... somehow ideas for art come to me then the most!

How long have you been an artist?: I started drawing stylised stone bridges when I was four.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Art will now always be part of my life, and career(s) to come. I study Branding Communications which is like multimedia meets marketing meets advertising. I'll always have to be inventive in terms of art, to be innovative, dynamic and fresh.

Why are these your favorites?: Well, Timeless Love is a piece I'm proud of, because I used bits of my own heritage and tried to meld it with a western representative style. Its something I've not done before, and I really enjoyed the result and feedback/critiques I got on it initially.
Another Life was an experimental on loose, perspective linework. I just really enjoyed the result of it, and also because it reminds me of my favorite mountain ridge that ovelooks my city - which coincidently is the biggest man-made forrested city in the southern hemisphere!
The last Searching for love was a special piece, it suppose to be just a feel-okay deviation, it represents to me that 'love' sometimes can be like waiting at a bus stop- You sometimes get off, sometimes you get back on! But most importantly, the 'bus' moves on, and one also has to move on...

Why are these your favorites:
Well, the first one 'Ballerina' is one of my most treasured images. I has influenced a whole lot of my work. In pursuit of what emotion and feeling it creates with me, and it reflects in all my light-hearted deviations (hopefully) invoking that same type of feel of 'freedom'.
'Talking with God' was the image that got me thinking about using more obscure and strange angles in my deviations. I have not applied that theory much to my designs lately, but I have done so in the past under its influences, and I continue to do so in my spare-time photography that I take.
The 'Abortion' piece is just amazing, it takes a hard topic and portrays it with so much fierceness and at the same time simplicity. It would be great for an anti-abortion ad campaign.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): I predominantly use Photoshop CS2. However, I'm now experimenting with mixing it with Illustrator + Freehand.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): It really depends on what I'm creating at the time- the theme of the deviation (light or dark) usually makes up the decision of the playlist (soft or heavy). Usually its music like Cafe del Mar, Hotel Costes, Buddha Bar, Soul Candi .etc which are all very similar.

Story behind your DA username: Its just my last name spelled backwards. I was looking for a name to use for my online gaming and could not come up with any, that’s when my wife came up with the idea of Noko and I thought cool. The only problem with the name is that people think I’m Japanese.

Why do you create art?: I love the feeling I get after I complete a piece of wow I created that, its mine and there’s not another one like it. My work is actually a part of me, my inner self for all to see.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Many things but the main one is emotion. Since most of my work is dark they are from emotions when I’m stressed or depressed. When I get into those states Id like to just shout out or bark at the moon. Since I don’t want to locked up in some insane asylum I create my art instead.

How long have you been an artist?: hmmmm I’ve been into photography since the age of twelve and been working with computer graphics since 1991 but not till recently have I done artwork. I would say about 2 ½ years.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Right now it’s a hobby but I would love to do it as a career. Nothing would make me happier than designing CD and DVD covers.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in: Photography is my first and true love. I do all kinds of photography but I want to excel at studio portrait photography. There is nothing more satisfying than capturing someone’s true self in a portrait. I just recently upgraded my studio equipment and now I just have to upgrade my skills .

Why are these your favorites?
They are all extremely well done and they are all in sharp focus. I know that may sound weird but I like art that is crystal clear. Metamorphosis is to me the most incredible piece that I have ever seen. Kazuhiko Nakamura doesn’t have many works on DA but the time to do each one is incredible. I love his attention to detail. Orc is done by T-gar the man of a thousand faces and is the king of textures. Finally Egg Forest by Augusto Peixoto is simplicity at its best. I also love the fact that this heavy Metal Artist would create such beautiful art. I wish that I have a fraction of his creativity.

What do you use to create your art: Photoshop CS/CS2, Illustrator and 3D Studio Max. Oh and its not a program but my camera a Canon 20D that I just love.

Location: Brasília, Brazil. So please, forgive me for the bad English…

Story behind your DA username: Comes from a trilogy I adore. Actually, nothing special... it’s just that I admire so much the story from Bernard Cornwell. And... I don’t know, Derfel is a nice character.

Why do you create art?: Basically I started to manipulate ‘cause I needed to learn, but at the first time I used photoshop I knew I would love to learn how to make interesting works, not only copy a head from a picture and put it on another body… but ok, I admit: this was the way I started. But today… today I do art like a hobby and also for training. I mean, I’m working as an Art Director, so the things I work with are quite similar to what I do here on DA.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Good question ! Eh, I don’t know… maybe some kind of divine force comes to my head and I become inspired like magic… lol But sometimes – and this is much more common than the divine force – it’s looking for some stocks and resources. This is what usually inspires me.
But of course… there are always that kind of feelings and emotions and blah blah blah that you all know about.

How long have you been an artist?: This is another great question because I don’t know if I could be called like an artist. At least this is not possible when we’re talking about my profession, but let’s imagine it’s all about the works I do like hobby. This kind of works you see in my gallery… so my answer is since I joined DA. It was when I started manipulating.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Both. I love to create my works because I feel comfortable about it. I think it’s nice, funny, relaxing and whatever else. But at the same time, this is the kind of thing that helps me a lot with my career. I love.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in: Hmm, I love photography but unfortunately this is not what I do better. I also love writing, specially about fantasy themes. Ah, I used to play the guitar too, but music is too hard for me! But, believe, I didn’t quit completely… I may continue training. Besides that, I do photomanipulation and this is the main thing.

Story behind your DA username: I'm a metalhead since '86 and the reason for that username is simple... it's a mix of my favourite band IRON MAIDEN and my favourite style of Metal music, DOOM METAL.

Why do you create art?: Simply because I love the feelings that art can demonstrate and for the freedom that I feel in
share what I call "The Art Of Dreams" with all my supports and friends.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Most of all FEELINGS and DREAMS, and the love for art that I feel! I'm always in a creative's process and sometimes I ask myself how I create so much works and from where the inspiration comes from, and the answer is always the same...FEELINGS!

How long have you been an artist?: Well since I was a little boy that I draw, and when I left the school (I was a art studdent too)
in 1990 that I'm became a graphic designer professionally, so I think that I could think that in all my life I was a artist.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: For fun/hobby of course, because and unfortunally I could only
dream about to live from my art...It's a dream as my art!

Difficult question, because I love all my works, and in different ways, all represent moments or pieces of me or about my dreams and feelings, but I could try:
- "Cemetery's Keepers" was and still is the work with most visits, considering that I've got one daily deviation
for the work "Hypnotic Stare"with all those comments and but I feel "Cemetery's Keepers" a very powerfull
image with a great atmosphere behind it.
-"Rough Road" is a lovely work with a wonderful sky, and in a Portuguese art site, Olhares, [link] this is one of the most visited works and I am very proud of it, because Olhares is a more photographic's site than digital orientation.
Finally, "Memories" [link] is perhaps my favourite work of all time, because of it simplicity, beautifull and with
a great feeling..

Why are these your favorites?
I choose them but I could choose others...there are lots of excelent works here at D.A. and generaly too... The reasons behind, are just because the ~slaine work is one of the first and more beautiful that I saw at D.A., second because Gyula Havancsák is my favourite artist and the third because Travis Smith is maybe the prime reason for I became a digital artist. All these works speack for themselves, like all the works of these three GREAT artists...

What do you use to create your art: I only use Adobe Photoshop as a
work's Tool, and the capacities that Photoshop gives to me, help me to create and develope my art. Sometimes a photo that I saw gave me some ideas, but sometimes I had visions in my mind and I try to project them to create a work...

Music that you listen to while creating art: Usually I don't listen music when I work but when I listen some is Metal music of course!
My inspirations are the ideas and some photo or image that I saw but music is good too for inspiration, but in my case is rare that it happens.

Story behind your DA username: There's actually no story to tell: I just wanted to have an ID the same or at least close to my name.

Why do you create art?: I find a lot of creative inspiration in my everyday experiences, and art for me is one of the tools to express all of them. The other one is writing. Besides, I just love to find and portray the beauty of the Dark Side: especially the dark and predatory aspects of female sexuality

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: My artistic works are inspired by magical practices, dreams, and all kinds of occult experiences - I'm a practitioner of the Left Hand Path magic and I also do a lot of research on such subjects as Necronomicon gnosis and the Cthulhu Mythos, dark witchcraft, the Qlipothic Qabalah, and also some others. All this provides a lot of inspiration for my artwork.

How long have you been an artist?: For many years. I started painting pastel and oil pictures when I was in high school, and for most of my life I've been a traditional artist. A few weeks ago I turned to digital art, and I realize that I've got still much to learn about this kind of creation. That's why I'm very happy that my piece "Nocturnal Transformation" was appreciated here

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: It's still a hobby, but I'm also thinking about some commercial use of my artwork. I've just opened a store at CafePress where I'll try to sell items with my designs, and I've got a print account here on DA. I love creating art and I'd be happy if I could also find an artistic-related job some day.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in: Now I create my artwork on the computer, and this is what I'm going to focus on in the nearest future. But I'm also planning to continue creating traditional pieces, especially oil paintings. I love photography, but I don't have time for this kind of art now. And as I've mentioned before, I also write a lot: I'm an author of many essays on esoteric, religious, and mythological subjects, a co-author of some books. Right now I'm releasing my first sole book called "The Book of Mephisto", a practical modern grimoire, based on a few years of theoretical and practical studies on Faustian magic

Why are they your favorites?: "Dagon" is my first digital work which encouraged me to take up digital creations. I like "Vampire's Moon" because I've put a lot of work in the technical details and I'm quite proud of the effect. And "Temple of Nyarlathotep" is my absolutely favourite piece right now because it combines all elements which I like most in artistic works: esoterics, darkness, perverse erotics, and is devoted to my favourite figure from the Cthulhu Mythos!

Why are these your favorites?
They are related to the occult themes, especially to my favourite ones. Also they are beautiful technically and eye-catching.

What do you use to create your art: For my digital artwork I use Photoshop CS, and I paint all the details myself using brushes and textures, and my own imagination. I don't do photomanipulations. In my traditional artwork I use oil paints and pastels, and for my oil paintings I prefer wood to canvas.

Music that you listen to while creating art: I usually listen to some ambient or ritual music, e.g. Endvra, Raison d'etre, Deutsch Nepal, Hexentanz, etc. But I love a great variety of music genres, and what I listen to at a particular moment also depends on the mood.

Story behind your DA username: It's actually a little bit silly, but sometimes that's the way to come up with a user name no one else is going to have. "Wolf Morphine" is actually an inside joke between my boyfriend and I. My nickname for him is actually "Wolf".... no "honey"s or "sweetie"s for me, I guess.... so that would make me "Wolf Morphine", something addictive, pleasant, or intoxicating to wolves.

Why do you create art?: I create art first and foremost as a means of personal expression. I am one of those people who always has an idea, or a story to tell, or a beauty to share, but I often find it hard to express those things with simple words. It seems like I never have trouble getting people to understand my meaning when I say what I want to say with art though. It's great if people like what I do enough to buy prints or commission me to do something more personal, but that's not why I do it. Making art quite simply makes me feel happy and fulfilled, and if something I have done touches someone else, then it's that much better!


What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Oh I can be inspired by just about anything! Many of my pieces are based on vivid dreams I have had, while others are nods to things like fairy tales or legends that have touched me in some special way. Still others came to me in flashes of inspiration brought on by something as simple as a line from a novel, or a single scene in a movie. Inspiration is waiting around every corner if you're looking for it.

How long have you been an artist?: I've been creating art in one form or another since I a small child! I can't even remember a time when I wasn't drawing, painting, or writing stories. I suppose I started getting more serious about honing my skills in my teens. I took every art class available to me, and got really into reading about art history and artistic theory for a while, too. That was also around the time I started entering my first art contests, and taking on my first commissions. Digital art is very new to me though. I started doing that over this past summer and have been hooked on it ever since!


Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: I guess a bit of both. My primary reason for making art is for fun and for self expression. It's such an integral part of who I am that I honestly couldn't imagine living a life in which I didn't create art in some form. It would be really nice to be able to make a real career of it at some point though. I already have my work available for sale as prints, and I've had a nice crop of commission projects come my way recently as well, so that's a nice start, but I'd love to get into professional illustrating at some point in the future.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in: These days, as far as visual art is concerned, I create the bulk of my work digitally on my computer. I don't paint traditionally too much anymore, but I have a strong background in acrylics, watercolors, and oil paints. I also still like to draw detailed pieces in graphite from time to time. In addition to my visual art, I like to write as well... both poetry and prose, some examples of which are in my gallery.... and I play both piano and violin.

Why are they your favorites?: All of those are examples of works that I am very proud of from a technical, as well as a conceptual, standpoint. They all came out exactly the way I wanted, and I feel I was able to express what I was looking to in all three cases.

Why are these your favorites?
These pieces all stand out to me for similar reasons. They are all very well executed techinically, they all have intriguing stories to tell, and they all have surreal elements to the subject matter. Those are probably the three main things that will really sell me on a piece of artwork.

What do you use to create your art: The bulk of my work is created digitally in Photoshop CS and is a blend of photomanip and digital painting/airbrushing. I rely very heavily on the painting part of that, probably because of my strong background in traditional oils and acrylics, so the stock photos wind up being guides more than anything else in a lot of cases. Sometimes I even paint in some of my elements completely from scratch with no guide at all just using the airbrushing and drawing tools. It just depends on the piece.

Music that you listen to while creating art: When I do listen to music while making art, it's usually something softer with interesting lyrics and creative melodies... Tori Amos, for example. I also tend to have the TV on a lot when I'm making art, usually turned to a movie channel, or an educational station like The Food Network or The History Channel. It helps keep me from concentrating way too hard on what I'm doing.

Story behind your DA username: Hera is one of my surnames and Stockholm is my home city. And I thought it sounded cool to combine them.

Why do you create art?: Because it's my way to let out creativity, tell things that touch and move me and feel important. And because everything around me inspire me. It's also a great way to wind down and relax when I feel burned-out and overheated.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Almost everything I see. Other people's work, nature, dreams, literature, things on TV and on the silver screen - you name it.

How long have you been an artist?: Since before I can remember. My dad has kept a little thingie I made with a green felt pen. It's a human carrying something – a flower perhaps, and I was hardly two when I made it.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: It's a hobby - mostly. Although I use it professionally too. For developing internet pages for instance.

An old traditional that I turned digital about a year ago. I loved this one so much and when I scanned it it came out all bleached and useless. And then I started to repair it in Photoshop - and as it went it became more than a repair, it became a whole new picture. With an added BG photo, deeper and more saturated colours and so on. It got new life, but still kept its old passion

This means a lot to me mostly because it's a cry for help from our Mother Earth, ending up in a fantasy realm so far away. I really wish I could read it. That we all could read it before it gets too late...

As you can see I'm greatly fascinated by a artist collective called Halmstadgruppen (The Halmstad Group) who was making surreal art. They were all very modern at their time (earlu 20th C), and they were inspired by Dalí and these guys. But in a way I find their work more positive and encouraging than for instance Dalí, even if he is another source of inspiration to me.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Can’t have a career with it. Now I’m in college studying journalism – it’s way too late to make a career out of art. I’m missing a lot of stuff I should be knowing at my age. So I take it as a hobby...

Why are these your favorites: The first one for the level of detail and the tons of work put into it. The second for the somewhat artificial mood it gives you. The third because it’s a thing I always wanted to do, but this guy cut in front of me and I simply love the skull in the sky idea.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): Corel PhotoPaint... I started with 9 and now I’m using 13. I rarely use Photoshop – I despise it. For traditional art – paper and Bic Medium black pencil....hmmm...yeah...and mechanical pencils as well as normal black pencils.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): Usually something soft like melodic-doom-metal (Dark Sanctuary, Dargaard, Arcana, Empyrium, Uaral etc ) or rock ballads... I also like all that celtic folk thing and medieval music (Loreena McKennitt, Blackmore’s Night etc)

Why do you create art?: It’s as important as breathing to me, a lifelong obsession.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Anything and everything, but on DA usually a beautiful stock image.

How long have you been an artist?: All my life!

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: I do make money from it, but that’s the icing on the cake.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): I work in all mediums, almost anything you can think of. I adore crafts of all kinds from sculpture to dressmaking. I’m a rubbish photographer but I keep trying!

Why are these your favorites: I have chosen 3 Artists that have affected me artistically. I have seen almost everything that Carravagio, Toulouse Lautrec, and Ron Mueck have produced. I am not usually lost for words but these artists render me speechless.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): My digital work I use Photoshop, and Painter, I do have other software that I sometimes make use of.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): I listen to anything! One week I will be into classical, another English folk music, but I also have a weakness for Rave (hard to concentrate with this)

Story behind your DA username: Well, "InsaneSandy" is my nickname since 2003 everywhere in the internet. I wanted something that's unique and at the same time something that includes a part of my name. "Insane" sounded good to me, and lots of people thought it would fit exactly to my character.

Why do you create art?: For me it's a good possibility to let all my feelings, good or bad, out... to spread them and share with people that feel similar.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Feelings, all sorts of feelings. Most time bad feelings. Maybe it sounds strange, but more badly I feel, the most creative I am. And sometimes it's just a songs that inspires me to do something that fits to it.

How long have you been an artist?: I began to draw and write when I was 12 and make Photomanipulations since 2004.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: No, just for fun.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc):
I write poetry and stories, do photomanipulations, drawing, photographing, and I sing and play guitar.

Why are these your favorites: The first one (by InnMemoriam) is so unique... I love how she's made the perpective. I'm a big fan of all her works! The 2nd (by freakwave) is something I can totally agree and identify with. The 3rd one (by OneTaintedAngel) gives me such a positive feeling.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): Photoshop, always

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): Lots of different stuff... the most time Rock or Gothic stuff or something fantasylike. Sirenia, Within Temptation, Emiliana Torrini... sometimes stuff like Korn, Ill Nino etc

Story behind your DA username: In plain translation Isidora means ‘gift of Isis’ and I think it has Greek origins. I’ve been using it as pen name since before I joined DA.

Why do you create art?: Because it makes me happy and it helps me take my mind off other things.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Everything… books, music, cartoons, real life… or even other people’s works.

How long have you been an artist?: Firstly I don’t consider myself an artist, but I’ve started painting, drawing, manipulating photos, etc. about a year and a half ago.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: I’d love to make a career out of it but I’m sure it will remain just a passion.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in?: I used to write stories. But now I stick to digital and traditional illustrations.

Why are these your favorites?: Because each made a very strong impression on me when I first saw them. Such an impression that I couldn’t turn away for minutes…

What do you use to create your art: Usually I use Photoshop CS, and from time to time Gimp.

Music that you listen to while creating art?: My first pieces made in 2005 were created while listening to gothic and dark ambient but the past year I’ve been listening to symphonic music, old folk and medieval.

Story behind your DA username: It was going to be the title of a book I wanted to write... but I just havn't got round to it yet. Plus I thought it sounded cool.

Why do you create art?: Because if I didn't I'd have to scoop out my soul with a rusty spoon and feed it to a mongoose. It's just something I have always done and which makes me happy.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Weird little situations in life and my scary and endless imagination....

How long have you been an artist?: As soon as I stopped chewing the paintbrushes and actually used them for the designed purpose.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: If people are crazy enough to pay me for my art then I would love to make art into a career.

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc):
Taught myself to play the piano (can only play Disney tunes, aha ha) I'm always making pointless little things out of objects I've found. Also I have a slight obsession with beads so I make a lot of jewelry. Basically I do anything art related.

2: All of her gallery is amazing! She uses such wonderfull colours.
3: I have a softspot for robots especailly ones this cute The design and overall idea for this piece is fantastic. Always puts a smile on my face.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): For most of my digital art I use photoshop elements 3 and my wonderfull wacom tablet

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): I have such a wide music taste. But usually it has to suit the mood of my art so mainly I listen to rock e.g Trapt, slipknot, Exit Ten. But also I sometimes listen to strange things like the soundtrack for Myst Exile the computer game. Good creepy music, always useful for creating art.
