FEATURED MEMBER - NOVEMBER 2007

This month's featured member is *Hera-of-Stockholm!

Real Name: Hera Linda Granqvist

Age: Classified

Location: Stockholm, Sweden

Story behind your DA username: Hera is one of my surnames and Stockholm is my home city. And I thought it sounded cool to combine them.

Why do you create art?: Because it's my way to let out creativity, tell things that touch and move me and feel important. And because everything around me inspire me. It's also a great way to wind down and relax when I feel burned-out and overheated.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Almost everything I see. Other people's work, nature, dreams, literature, things on TV and on the silver screen - you name it.

How long have you been an artist?: Since before I can remember. My dad has kept a little thingie I made with a green felt pen. It's a human carrying something – a flower perhaps, and I was hardly two when I made it.

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: It's a hobby - mostly. Although I use it professionally too. For developing internet pages for instance.
What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc) everything but playing an instrument. But I have been doing some remixing and stuff using computer based programmes.

Links to 3 of your personal favorite works of art (that you've made):

YinYang II

My latest. I always feel a lot for my latest work. And the Yin Yang idea has always inspired me

Gentle

An old traditional that I turned digital about a year ago. I loved this one so much and when I scanned it it came out all bleached and useless. And then I started to repair it in Photoshop - and as it went it became more than a repair, it became a whole new picture. With an added BG photo, deeper and more saturated colours and so on. It got new life, but still kept its old passion

Message from Earth

This means a lot to me mostly because it's a cry for help from our Mother Earth, ending up in a fantasy realm so far away. I really wish I could read it. That we all could read it before it gets too late...

Why are these your favorites?: See above

Links to 3 of your favorite works of art (Can be on DA, or elsewhere on the internet):

This is sooo hard, I have so many I love. But here are some:

Drömland med hjärtan - Dreamland with hearts by Stellan Mörner

Complete site here all in Swedish unfortunately

Morgon (Morning) by Sven Jonson

I have a caligraphie of another of his works hanging on the wall just above my computer. It inspires me greatly.

Original site Also in Swedish, but take a look at the Posters! They are amazing!

As you can see I'm greatly fascinated by a artist collective called Halmstadgruppen (The Halmstad Group) who was making surreal art. They were all very modern at their time (earlu 20th C), and they were inspired by Dalí and these guys. But in a way I find their work more positive and encouraging than for instance Dalí, even if he is another source of inspiration to me.

One of my favourite DA artists and a great pal too. *Aegis-Strife

You find this guy on Aegis-Strife and aegis-strife.net

And this is one of his best work IMO

City of Light by *Aegis-Strife

Why are these your favorites: Because they are beautiful (A lot of blue in them) and creative and inspires me.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): For traditional stuff I use my digital camera and pens and oil on canvas. For digital there's Photoshop above all, but also some 3D programmes like Corel Fractals, Aphophysis, Terragen, Daz, Micrograph.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you):
Mostly electro and trance. Like Synthetic Spirit, Cordis, Andy Livid, Corento, The Knife, Shahakatu, JM Jarre, Vangelis, Frostbite, Bodies Without Organs, Siste Mannen På Jorden, Ultraviolet, The Dignity of Labour, Raindancer, X-perience, OneTwo, Easily Embarrased…

Link to one print you'd love to own on DA: (maybe someone will be nice and buy it for you one day!)

Anachronic Circles by *Aegis-Strife

Anything else you'd like to say to the group: Keep creating! That's what make us humans. And make sure you're having fun while doing it! Art should never be a preassure and a painful "must" because then it looses its nerve. And be generous with hugs and love.

FEATURED MEMBER - JUNE 2007
This month's featured member is ~Deathpen!

Real Name: Dumitru Alexandru

Age: Almost 21

Location: Bucharest (the Capital of Romania)

Story behind your DA username: Initially I wanted another user name, but it was already taken by some duffus so I tried another and another...all taken...so I thought to myself – i have a fascination with skulls and I also draw things related to death and my favourite tool is the pen – so, Deathpen it is

Why do you create art?: So that others may see it and appreciate it. Also so that I may free parts of myself.

What sort of things inspire you to create artistic works?: Powerful experiences. Defintely. I also need spiritual quiet and the normal type of quiet. I can’t create while stressed...

How long have you been an artist?: Don’t consider myself one, but if you would like to know, I started taking my works more seriously in 2006...

Do you do art for fun/hobby or is it something you hope to do as a career?: Can’t have a career with it. My dream to be an artist was stomped by my parents as I was a little child – they wouldn’t let me study art because they said nobody can make a living out of that. Now I’m in college studying journalism – it’s way too late to make a career out of art. I’m missing a lot of stuff I should be knowing at my age. So I take it as a hobby...

What are all the artistic mediums that you take part in (poetry, photography, do you play an instrument, make crafts? etc): I dabble in photomanipulation, pen and paper drawings, a little bit of poetry and recently I’ve a failed attempt to write a novel. Also like taking photos of nature, though not much of a photographer.

Links to 3 of your personal favorite works of art (that you've made):

Like a thorn for the holy ones

Sensitive

Priest of the Moon

Why are these your favorites?: The first because it’s the piece i’ve put the most work into. The second because I really love the idea and I’ve never seen anyone else doing something similar. The third because I consider it to be a great wallpaper – I had it on my desktop for months.

Links to 3 of your favorite works of art (Can be on DA, or elsewhere on the internet):

Garou by ~ScorpionDeathlock

Tilt by `TheTragicTruth-Of-Me

Lady Raven by ~Fenrizulf

Why are these your favorites: The first one for the level of detail and the tons of work put into it. The second for the somewhat artificial mood it gives you. The third because it’s a thing I always wanted to do, but this guy cut in front of me and I simply love the skull in the sky idea.

What do you use to create your art (example, what program do you use, do you use mixture of several programs, etc): Corel PhotoPaint... I started with 9 and now I’m using 13. I rarely use Photoshop – I despise it. For traditional art – paper and Bic Medium black pencil....hmmm...yeah...and mechanical pencils as well as normal black pencils.

Music that you listen to while creating art (If you do listen to music while making art, stuff that inspires you): Usually something soft like melodic-doom-metal (Dark Sanctuary, Dargaard, Arcana, Empyrium, Uaral etc ) or rock ballads... I also like all that celtic folk thing and medieval music (Loreena McKennitt, Blackmore’s Night etc)

Link to one print you'd love to own on DA: Never been much into prints, because the DA doesn’t like Romanian money...

Anything else you'd like to say to the group: This is my first club and it’s my favourite club and I always loved these contests. I really love this Dreamer’s Community. Long live Abstract Silence !

FEATURED MEMBER - DECEMBER 2006
This month's featured member is ~Enchanters-Blood!

Story behind your DA username: It was going to be the title of a book I wanted to write... but I just havn't got round to it yet. Plus I thought it sounded cool.

Why do you create art?: Because if I didn't I'd have to scoop out my soul with a rusty spoon and feed it to a mongoose. It's just something I have always done and which makes me happy.

How long have you been an artist?: As soon as I stopped chewing the paintbrushes and actually used them for the designed purpose.
